What you won't get on most laser printers is color and photo printing capability. While there are color laser printers on the market, they do cost more. And among those, not every color printer is well-suited to printing photos, and those that do require special photo paper specifically for laser printers. One important consideration when purchasing a laser printer scanner is the type of documents you will be scanning. Some printers are better at scanning text documents while others are better at scanning photos. You should also consider the maximum scan resolution of the printer and the maximum print resolution.

It also has just 25 percent as much onboard memory and runs a little slower. We also tested the Canon Color ImageClass LBP622Cdw but came away disappointed with its user interface, its apps, and its occasionally slow printing. It’s a good machine—its prints are actually a little nicer than the HP M255dw’s straight out of the box—but the HP is simply much more pleasant to use. While sanitation departments often limit e-waste disposal events to certain times of year, retailer recycling programs offer more flexibility on where and when you can dispose of used printers—usually for free.

We tested the Brother MFC-L3770CDW but found that it couldn’t keep up with our laser AIO pick in usability or raw performance. Its resistive touchscreen wasn’t as responsive as the HP M479fdw’s capacitive panel, and the Brother iPrint&Scan software froze repeatedly on our MacBook during multi-page scan jobs. In addition, since its duplex printing isn’t single-pass, it took nearly twice as long to print two-sided documents as the HP. Brother claims the HL-L2350DW can print at up to 32 pages per minute, 5 pages per minute faster than the machine it replaces.

At the other extreme, you may scan so little that you can take care of the occasional capture with a scan app on your phone or just take photos. Unless you need to scan files to PDF format or use optical character recognition to turn the scans into text files, you'll probably be scanning to the same JPG format that photos use, anyway. This is a great machine for churning out reports, handouts, and other official paper, in fairly large quantities, in enterprise, fleet, and data-archiving environments. Take advantage of the Dash Replenishment service to save an extra 10% on your ink orders.
The best laser printer
But depending upon what you’re looking for—affordability, high printing volume, photo and creative printing, or other criteria—you might prefer one brand over another. The advice at the end of this article makes choosing the best home or home office printer a lot easier than you might think. When you are out looking for an all-in-one printer for your home or office, there are certain factors you need to consider, such as the printing speed and compatibility of the printer.

When you first set it up, just be sure to check for any plastic pieces that might have jumped out of place, and run a few print and scan jobs to make sure everything is working properly. If it’s not, give Brother’s customer support a call before returning the machine; the fix might be really simple. The MFC-L2750DW shares a couple of annoying but easily fixable faults with its print-only stablemate. As with the HL-L2350DW, print quality degrades on this machine when you initiate jobs from Brother’s iPrint&Scan app, so you should use your operating system’s native print dialog instead. Google Cloud Print doesn’t work from the get-go—or didn’t for us, anyway—but you can fix that by disabling IPv6 in the Web control panel’s networking options. You don’t really need to install any extra software for the HL-L2350DW because it has native Windows and Mac drivers.
Honorable Mention: HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e
It means that printing one page on a laser printer is cheaper, and these devices are in fact money-saving. An excellent print, copy and color solution designed with a paper capacity of up. One problem with some inkjet printers is that the ink dries up on the printheads and can cause problems which need to be fixed by running a printer head cleaning utility after a period of disuse.
It wasn’t quite that fast for us, but it still seemed speedy enough for just about any home or home-office use we could imagine. We clocked it at 25 pages per minute while printing single-sided PDFs and 12 pages per minute while using duplexing—faster than our color top pick, the HP M255dw, in both cases. Test print jobs reliably started up within a couple of seconds, too, so you won’t be left waiting long in any case. Finally, we looked for a high-end color laser all-in-one for people with more serious small-office or home-office needs. Like the mono MFP, it needed to be fast and flexible, offer great print and scan quality, and have a not completely outrageous price (none of these machines are cheap, but we set the cap at $500).
The printer even comes with a flatbed scanner that will help fulfill your photocopy and scanning needs. All in one printers are the most important factor when it comes to printing. The main purpose of all-in-one printers is to give us the freedom to print without having to deal with multiple multifunction devices. All in one printer not only offers high quality output but also saves our time and efforts. Epson UltraChrome K3200 inkjet printers are the best available inkjet printers by any manufacturer, making them ideal for home use.

And if you’re printing full-page, full-color photos, the printer uses more ink than usual. Any printer can spit out an image, but it won’t be something you’d want to hang on the wall. When printing photos, look for printers with higher print resolution, borderless printing or that can print on tabloid-size paper. The best photo printers use six colors to do a better job at producing lab-quality photo prints.

Full duplex printers can automatically print to both sides of a page. Duplex printers are nice to have at home, but essential in an office. Using this feature, you’ll save a lot of paper, so the environment and your wallet will thank you. On the downside, when using full duplex printing with an inkjet printer, you may need to use thicker paper to eliminate ink bleed through. Your choice of printer depends on how much you routinely print—a few pages per month or dozens each day—as well as whether you want to print photos or two-sided documents. You also need to consider if you simply require black and white (often referred to as monochrome or simply “black” in the printer’s specs) output, or you want full color printing at your disposable.
